The Lady Badger Varsity softball team will compete against Burnet tonight at 7 p.m. on their home field.

“This season has gone really well so far,” junior Allison Fry said. “We are playing very well and competing nicely with everyone.”
The team will play a total of 12 district games to determine if they advance to the playoffs. They have won three of their four district games so far, sitting at 3rd in the district.
“We are playing some pretty good teams,” head softball coach Blakeli Brookerson said. “I try to schedule teams during the preseason that are similar if not better than the teams we play in district. My attitude and my mentality are to do whatever it takes to be better than the year before. I have a very salty group of girls who push each other no matter their classification. Their will and want to win is amazing.”
The team began practicing in early January, and tonight’s game will mark their 25th game this season.
“Our practices take place after school,” Brookerson said. “They consist of a lot of basic fundamentals of the game. We harp on the little things like good throws, smart baserunning, etc. because the little things can either be a reason you win or lose.”
Brookerson said that the team’s morale this season has been high.
“The girls are very close this year,” Brookerson said. “You can tell on and off the field they all love each other and take care of each other.”
Fry said that this season she is focused on doing her job for the team.
“My favorite memory so far was hitting my first home run in front of both of my parents,” Fry said. “My biggest goal for this season is to go at least three rounds in the playoffs because we’ve only gone one round both years I have played.”
Brookerson said that this whole season in general has been a stand out moment for her.

“This group of girls have the drive and want to win,” Brookerson said. “I truly think this group is different. They have that grit all coaches look for and they are such a fun group of girls to watch.”
