The varsity boys basketball team will play an away game against Jarrell tomorrow at 7:30 p.m.
“We really like how the season is progressing,” head boys basketball coach Aaron Nuckles said. “We have played a really tough non-district schedule and feel like that has prepared us nicely for the district games that are awaiting us.”
In total Lampasas is standing at a 19-7 win-loss ratio for the season so far, with a standing of 3-0 in district.
“There are 12 district games in total,” Nuckles said. “The top 4 of 7 teams will advance once the standings are complete.”
The team won their most recent game, scoring 60-30 against Marble Falls Tuesday in the competition gym.
“All home games will be on Tuesdays, and the road games will be on Fridays,” Nuckles said. “We would love to have great turnouts for the student section this year in district. It only cost a couple of dollars to get in, so come out and be loud!”
Nuckles said the team is motivated to keep the season going.
“We have many seniors this year that have played a lot of games,” Nuckles said. “They, along with the younger guys, are wanting to keep this thing going as long as they can.”
Senior varsity basketball player Calum Mitchell said that it being his senior year has changed the game for him.
“Knowing this is my senior season and the last time I’ll ever play with this team does have a lot of effect on how I play,” Mitchell said. “I don’t want this to ever end and playing at a high level means we get to play more games, resulting in more time played together.”
Mitchell has been playing basketball with his teammates for over four years and with some of them even up to ten years.
“My favorite moment so far has just been the car rides to and from tournaments,” Mitchell said. “Sitting in a car for seven plus hours with a group of guys sounds miserable but somehow it was fun and we really bonded more from it. We are as close as a team can get.”
