The Badger football team will compete against Marble Falls today at Badger Stadium in their final district game.
“We plan on getting better every day we get a chance to play football,” head football coach Troy Rogers said. “Our time is running out, so our goal is to get as good as we can with the time we have left.”
The team plays four district games, and must win one or two games to secure a spot in the playoffs.
“The district is tough,” Rogers said. “We have two of the top teams in the region in our district and Stephenville is ranked number one in the state in many polls.”
For their first three district games the Badgers Played Brownwood, Burnet and Stephenville. In their game against Burnet the team won 28-23, continuing a nine year streak of beating the Burnet Bulldogs.
“It feels good to get a win,” Rogers said. “Winning is not easy. The goal at the end of the night is to be 1-0 and if we just so happen to be on a 9-0 streak against Burnet, that is even better.”
Rogers said the hardest challenge for the team has been to block out the noise, both good and bad.
“Every week presents a different challenge,” Rogers said. “We have to be intentional on getting better individually and as a team. Distractions are part of it, for everyone, and the teams that stay focused and locked in mentally are the successful teams.”
Despite challenges Rogers said the team is continuing to evolve and come together.
“We have not peaked, which is a good thing, we still have a lot of progress to make to get where we want to be,” Rogers said. “I believe on and off the field we have a great group of teammates who enjoy being around each other.”
Varsity football player Brody Hilgenberg said Friday nights playing football are amazing.
“Just spending time with my brothers is very fun, especially with all the things we do on Friday nights,” Hilgenberg said. “The community is super supportive of us, and that makes me feel really good.”
