All students will begin three days of spring semester exams today, and AP English Language and Composition students and AP Environmental Science students also have AP Exams this week.
“To come up with the schedule, teachers gave input to reduce the time a bit and to not have any classes too many times on the schedule,” Principal Paul Weinheimer said. “This exam schedule also must work around the AP exam times.”
Weinheimer said he tries not to schedule too many tests on one day and to also have the classes the day before their exam date.
A “Character video/attendance incentive” is scheduled during Academic Period and 8th period Test Retake times Thursday.
“The Character Video/Attendance incentives in the cafeteria will be to incentive good attendance with different things in the cafeteria,” Weinheimer said.
AP English 3 teacher Dondi Hinds said there are pros and cons of the exam schedule, but overall she feels confident in it. She likes that there are several opportunities for students who are taking the AP English exam to talk to their teachers about taking their semester exam on a different day.
“My favorite part about the schedule is that there are no exams on Wednesday morning,” Hinds said. “ Many of my students are taking the AP Language & Composition Exam at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, and so they won’t have to worry about missing a final while they are testing.”
Hinds said there are benefits for students because they get a break during academic period on Wednesday and Thursday.
“The last block on Thursday allows an extra slot to make up any tests they missed during the week,” Hinds said.
