Promenade will take place tomorrow at W.M. Brook park starting at 6 p.m., and Prom will follow after at the Lampasas County Showbarn.
“It’s going to be a blast,” junior class sponsor Desiree Kachel said. “Prom is a time honored tradition that every student should attend because traditionally, it is that last hoorah for students, a chance to hang out with friends, and get gussied up.”
As junior class sponsor Kachel acts as head of the prom committee and is responsible for class necessities like fundraisers. This is Kachel’s first year as head of the prom committee.
“Having never done this before, it started out as a struggle, and some things were left out at first,” Kachel said. “[Bookkeeper Amanda] Ring has been very helpful with expectations, making calls and putting in orders.”
Tickets for prom cost $20 and have been on sale since March 16. Tickets could be purchased from junior and senior class officers, or during both lunches up until April 9. A ticket is required to participate in both promenade and prom. The theme for this year’s prom is ‘Roaring 20’s’.
“It will be a little different with the 20’s theme, thought of by [senior] Sagen Plouff during our first meeting.” Kachel said. “So old fashion decor mixed with up to date gadgets to exemplify the experience.”
The dance itself will include a DJ, dancing, a photo booth and food.
“The food that will be available is an assortment of small sandwiches, chips and cookies,” Kachel said. “The souvenir will be the pictures taken from the photo booth printed right after the picture is taken.”
Voting for the prom court opened to seniors on March 30 and closed on April 2. Prom court nominees were announced earlier last week. The queen court includes: Giselle Ruperto, Leah Phillips, Jacie Resa, Sydney Unger, Johnnie Lewis, Kelbie Black, and Sagen Plouff. The king court includes: Tate Langford, Cale Wheeler, Veer Patel, Juan Rodriguez, Zimiri Vergara, Armando Cardona III.
“I was very shocked when I found out I was on the court,” Ruperto said. “I assumed that since I already ran for Homecoming, I wasn’t going to be a popular vote again and there would be a demand for some fresh new faces. However, I am very excited to be part of something once again!”
Prom king and queen will be announced at promenade, and the winners each receive a crown and sash.
“What I’m excited for is taking pictures with friends and hanging out with them,” Ruperto said. “Even more when we’re all dolled up and looking beautiful.”
According to accuweather.com, there is a 34% chance of precipitation during promenade. If it rains, promenade will be moved to the competition gym at the high school.
“I really don’t want it to rain,” Ruperto said. “It’s tradition to walk the bridge at promenade and I would like to experience that at least once before I graduate. However, you can’t control the weather.”
Ruperto said her goal is to make the moment count.
“Especially with moments like these that I won’t ever get to do again with some friends before we all go our separate ways,” Ruperto said. “You’re only a senior once.”
