Administrators have limited access to boys’ restrooms by closing several at a time due to consistent vandalism. The closures allow more monitoring of those remaining open.
“I think it has been an inconvenience at times to students and has caused extra work for our custodians,” Principal Paul Weinheimer said. “There have been several instances weekly, mostly small, but still burdensome to others.”
Weinheimer said there have been different problems in the restroom including vandalism and trash and uncleanliness at times.
“We want to make sure we have restrooms open in different parts of the school at all times, but that will vary from time to time,” Weinheimer said.
An anonymous student said he put trash cans on toilets several times in both upstairs and downstairs restrooms over the course of several weeks this semester.
“I just went to the restroom during class, and I was just super bored,” he said. “Then I got the idea to put the trashcans on the toilet.”
He said that in December he would grab the wet slippery signs and move them in various places because he was bored and thought it was funny.
“The APs were very, very, very mad,” he said. “They pulled me from my ninth period athletics, and I had to go to Mr. Weinheimer’s office. Mr. Black, Mr. Weinheimer, Mrs. Montague, and a police officer were all there too.”
The APs and officers talked with him about how what he had done affected the health and safety of everyone on campus and caused additional work for custodians.
He was issued several days of ISS and had to help custodians clean after school.
