As a result of a severe winter storm last week, school was cancelled on both Jan. 26 and Jan. 27.

“Our superintendent gets input and guidance from several places including LISD District Admin, local law enforcement, DPS and local and greater area weather forecasters as well,” Principal Paul Weinheimer said. “After getting input from several areas, he makes the best decision [on cancellation] based on that input.”
Despite missing two days, they will not have to be made up later in the year.
“We had minutes built into our schedule for more than 2 days of school closures,” Weinheimer said.
With no cancellation on Wednesday and unmelted ice in some areas, several students were absent that day.
“We will ask that those [absent] students bring a parent note and from there we will look at the attendance for each student as a whole,” Weinheimer said. “This one absence will not harm a students’ overall attendance record for sure.”
Some teachers postponed assignments until more students returned Jan. 29.
“If we have enough days like this, then we have to make up the days after the predicted last day of school,” sophomore Rylee Banks said. “Which sucks, but the safety of students should have come first.”
