The Juniorette Pierians (JP) club will host their annual JP’s dance Saturday in the Hanna Springs Elementary School cafeteria at 6 p.m.
“Our dance this year will be Valentine’s Day themed,” JP president Sagen Plouff said. “Our motto has been ‘Be My Sweetheart”.
Juniorette Pierians is a selective girls service club focused on community service, hosting events like dances and developing leadership skills among young women. It is a tradition for the club to host a dance second semester each year.
“Planning the JP’s dance is very much a strong and united effort,” senior JP member Sydney Unger said. “We have had numerous meetings discussing all the details and making sure everyone’s voice and opinions are heard. The theme is usually the first thing we get out of the way. At an early meeting the president, Sagen, mentions to everyone to start coming up with themes, maybe do some research to find something unique. Then at the next meeting everyone pitches their ideas and we vote on the best one.”
The JP club plans the entire dance and works together to create decorations for the event. On the night of the dance they arrive early to set up and decorate.
“We have had so much fun being able to work together on DIY decorations and bounce ideas off of each other,” Plouff said. “Securing a venue for an event like this always comes with some difficulty, but we were able to find somewhere that would work for us.”
Tickets are needed to get into the dance. Tickets are priced at $10 per person and can be bought from any current JP member at school or by messaging the JP’s instagram account (@juniorettepierians).
“Selling tickets is getting harder, as less people show interest in going to the dance,” Unger said. “We really have to rally together to build up anticipation and get everyone back into the spirit of school dances.”
The dance is typically a semi-formal event, but any attire is welcome. The dance will feature music, photo backdrops and props, snacks and drinks and potentially give aways.
“The JP’s dance truly has an amazing atmosphere and is always filled with amazing people,” Plouff said. “It is a very fun environment where kids can relax and have fun. It is a great opportunity for high schoolers to gain an extra experience within their four years.”
Unger said her experience attending the dance has always been enjoyable, both before and after becoming a member of the JP club.
“In the past, attending JP’s has been fun,” Unger said. “I’ve gotten to make lots of memories with my friends, and just enjoy a night without any stress, which is rare nowadays. I did attend JP’s before becoming a member and it was a good night. I felt very welcomed and it was clear that a lot of thought and effort was put into getting the dance together.”
