Boys’ bathrooms on campus, particularly the upstairs bathroom, underwent a new wave of vandalism in September and October resulting in extended closures until repairs and maintenance were completed. The incidents have caused frustration among both students and staff.
“It’s frustrating for us, especially if you’re on the way to a class and need to use the bathroom upstairs,” senior Royce Clary said. “Sometimes you don’t have time to go all the way downstairs just to use the bathroom and then come back up again.”
The individuals responsible for these incidents are not publicly known, though a growing sentiment among those affected is to spread the word to prevent future temptations.
“Tell your friends, let people know, if [any students] know who keeps doing this, tell [them] to stop,” chemistry teacher Carl Gehring said. “I’m sick and tired of these bathrooms being closed because someone decided to screw around.”
The vandalism is not only an inconvenience to students and staff alike, but also takes time and effort for those responsible for taking care of damages. Even among students, there are confusions regarding a potential motive for the vandal(s).
“I get messing around can be fun and all, but why bother with the bathrooms?” senior Sasa Sauao Sokimi said. “It just seems like a waste… What’s the point of doing something that just inconveniences yourself and everyone else?”
