The Heath Occupations Students of America (HOSA) club will host their annual trunk or treat today in the teacher parking lot from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“HOSA hosts the trunk or treat so that kids and families have a safe way to have fun and dress up while still being able to get treats and interact with the community,” HOSA sponsor Karalyn Baker said. “I believe families should come out because it will be a fun event for the community and the community can interact with different groups or organizations within the school.”
All organizations and clubs within the school are invited to participate in handing out candy or facilitating games.
“There are multiple groups involved in the trunk or treat,” Baker said. “I send an email to all the schools for any group or club so that anyone can come and set up at the trunk or treat. The Department of School Health and Key Club are just a few that are going to be there.”
The trunk or treat is a HOSA tradition that has been going on for over five years. This is Baker’s first year teaching and being the HOSA sponsor at the high school, and she decided to keep the tradition going.
“I love the tradition of having a trunk or treat for families and the community to be able to come and be involved,” Baker said. “It allows our students to be involved in the community as well.”
HOSA president senior Sagen Plouff said that the trunk or treat has always been a successful event for the club.
“We’ve always given out lots of candy and had a good turnout,” Plouff said. “The number of clubs that have shown up in the past has always helped this event be successful.”
This year Halloween falls on the same day as the final home varsity football game.
“With the football game falling on Halloween this year, many parents will be able to give their kids the trick or treating experience at the trunk or treat and still be able to attend the game,” Plouff said. “This is a great way to get kids to trick or treat without being out super late, worrying about the candy they are getting or the chaos of large crowds.”
This year’s trunk or treat will offer candy, activities and face painting.
“Trunk or treat is thrown every year for the members of the community,” Plouff said. “They are the most important part of this event for us. All children are welcome, and costumes are encouraged!”
