Wings Of Eagles Outreach meets from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the skatepark every Monday there is school to provide a warm meal for students, and also offers community service hours to those who are in need of it.
“For years Wing Of Eagles Outreach (WEOut) has organized programs and events to help students,” secondary dyslexia coordinator Marisa Skiles said. “Our Ministry was part of a mission trip this summer, and their organization simply hung out with people they ministered to. I thought, ‘that’s exactly what we need to do, just hang out with students and build relationships, nothing organized.’”
WEOut hopes to provide teens a warm meal who might not always get one.
“I think it’s very beneficial to some kids who unfortunately don’t always go home to a hot meal,” life skills aide Amy Andrade said. “So there’s that meal provided, and there’s also just the togetherness of finding people you might not usually talk to at school. You can see what you have in common, and just hang out. Who knows what kind of friends you’ll make.”
Students think that this event is very helpful and a nice way to provide a warm meal to teens.
“I think it’s an interesting way to kill time and have fun with friends even with food provided,” junior Cinai Testamark said. “People do benefit from this event as it gives people a meal to eat after school hours.”
As of the first couple of meets, the picnic has had only a small group of people turn up for the event.
“We also want to hear from the kids,” Andrade said. “What do kids want with it? What would make them come?”
Testamark wants to thank WEOut for helping people in need.
“I’m sure I have a couple friends who would benefit from going to the Wings Of Eagles event,” Testamark said.
