A new taxidermy badger in a display case was placed in the front foyer last week.
“We were excited to be able to receive the donation and display it with pride,” principal Joey McQueen said. “I love it and really appreciate it being donated. It adds personality to our foyer.”
The taxidermy was done by Fleeman Taxidermy and donated by alumnus Scott Chainey.
“We are always proud when past graduates contribute to LHS,” McQueen said. “It displays badger pride.”
Students and staff have had mixed reactions to the new badger. Sophomore Sydney Unger said she thinks the badger is located in a peculiar place.
“I like the badger, but I think they need to move him,” Unger said. “I think he could stay in the foyer, just not in the middle like he is. I think they could move him over against the wall, though it is a cute little attraction when guests walk through the front doors.”
Sophomore Arianna Gonzalez said she thinks the badger is in the way of student traffic.
“It gets really crowded in the foyer and it takes up quite a bit of space,” she said.
Chemistry teacher Carl Gehring said the badger is a great way to display school spirit.
“Students should all touch the case when you come to school in the morning,” Gehring said. “It would get you ready for school. You should touch it on the way out too. I think it spreads so much pride that it just might bring Badger Man back. You never know. Badger Man might be out there one day greeting students as they walk into school. All because of the new taxidermied Badger.”
