Many Badgers participated in the track and field regional competition in Bullard April 19, but no athletes advanced to state.
“I think I need to learn how to run against the clock, instead of other people,” sophomore Dacoda Fry said.
Athletes worked early mornings and late afternoons to prepare for each competition.
“We prepare by working on our running form and running fast,” track and field coach Cory Warner said. “Less is more and we wanted the kids to be at their best at the time of the meet. We never had a practice where we ran more than 600M and we always worked as fast as possible. We gave them plenty of rest-time in between runs.”
A few students were recovering from injuries from the previous season or other sports.
“I tore my hamstring at the beginning of the year,” Fry said. “I think I came back strong and improved my starts and handoffs a lot through the part of the season I got to compete in.”
Despite no athletes advancing to state this year, there was clear evidence that every student had improved this season.
“We saw our times get faster as the year went on,” Warner said. “We PRed (personal record) in many of our last races.”
