Principal Joey McQueen officially announced his resignation during a staff meeting Feb. 19. Assistant Principal Paul Weinheimer will be the principal for the 2024-25 school year.
“Mr. Weinheimer will be excellent,” McQueen said. “He has the experience and enthusiasm to be a top notch principal for LHS.”
McQueen had previously mentioned this would be his final year a few times.
“Actually, I retired in 2012 after 30 years in education,” McQueen said. “I am considered to be a retire/rehire. I now have 41 years in education and have loved every minute.”
Despite his resignation, McQueen’s work will not end in May.
“I will not be relaxing,” McQueen said. “I have my real estate license, will be working with Bell House Ranch and will be the AD (athletic director) for the Building Badgers Youth Program.”
Junior Trinity Watkins has mixed feelings about the upcoming change.
“I’m sad, but also happy he felt comfortable enough to leave the school to Weinheimer,” junior Trinity Watkins said.
Seniors who are leaving with McQueen are glad to see him take a new step in his life.
“I believe Mr. McQueen was one of the best things to happen to Lampasas,” senior Dylan Duvall said. “Although I’m sad he’s leaving, I’m glad my senior year was spent with him, and I’m happy he’s getting his retirement.”
McQueen said his six years as principal have been rewarding.
“I love you all,” McQueen said. “To have such amazing students and colleagues has been a great feeling. My wish for everyone is to continue to make LHS, “The Best of the Best.”
