Lampasas High School will have a new sport to cheer on this year. All students have a chance to sign up for the wrestling team. Coach Brandan Rosa will be the head wrestling coach.

“I have coached wrestling for six years of my career,” coach Rosa said. “From the 2007-2008 school year to the 2012-2013 school year.”

Coach Rosa coached wrestling at Ada High school and Edmond North High School.

“I feel confident about it [the team],” coach Rosa said. “The interest is there from a lot of different directions, and it is interesting to see how many athletes are interested in the sport.”

As of now, the wrestling practices will begin on Nov. 20th.

“The performance will be great to watch develop,” coach Rosa said. “The kids here are hard workers and get after it, and in my opinion, that is where success stems from.”

Cameron Everts is a sophomore who has competed in select wrestling for years. Everts will be on the wrestling team this year.

“I am really excited about wrestling for the school this year,” Everts said. “I think we could put a good team together, and do very well.”

Anyone is welcome to join the wrestling team before the practices start.

“I am so excited to see who all joins our team this year,” Everts said. “I think coach Rosa is a great coach, and I think he will teach us many new techniques to help us win when we compete.”

Lampasas has not had a wrestling team for a very long time. With the incoming of a new coach, the opportunity for a new sport opened up.

Angelea Lance is a senior who will also be a wrestler for her first time.

“I play other sports, and I see this as another chance to compete against someone who is in another uniform,” Lance said. “I am really looking forward for wrestling season to come around, and I bet the other competitors are as well.”

Starting in November, the Lampasas community will be able to cheer on the Badger and Lady Badger wrestling teams.
