New Principal Brings New Policies

After Mark Kehoe’s departure from the district, Robert White, formerly principal at McGregor High School, was named as the new principal for this year.  White has brought many new ideas to enhance the school, some that have already been enforced during the first weeks of classes.

“My vision for the school is continued growth for everyone: students, teachers, and administrators,” White said. “We all are challenged in the task to improve, and that’s what I want to help our school do.”

White plans to bring techniques from his previous school to incorporate at Lampasas.

“I was there [at McGregor] for five years as the principal, three before that as the assistant principal,” White said. “We were fortunate enough to have improvement in all of our STAAR testing, and we were able to have improvement in our AP scores.”

One of White’s new ideas is to choose a word this year – “unite” – to bring students and faculty together.

“I think [our word of the year] can be huge,” White said. “First, I am very proud of the student council for picking that word because they picked it with a very genuine heart. They literally discussed it in detail, and I really like hearing them process all that. I think it will help our students and faculty because it is a word we can use every day.”

Faculty and staff have incorporated the word some way in their classroom so help students buy into the idea of being united.

“We need to have a common focus, we need to look out for one another, we need to look out for that one that may need assistance, and we are here to make things better,” White said. “I like the aspect of the fact that this is a bigger school, we have 1,000 students in the building -we have 1,018 here today – and I like the fact that if we can get 1,018 students to believe and push each other it’s going to be an amazing year.”
