Flu season is in full swing, forcing several students and faculty to stay home for multiple days at a time.
“Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer,” LVN (Licensed Vocational Nurse) Audrey Coffman said. “Don’t touch your face with your bare hands and make sure to wash your hands before eating.”
When sick, there are actions people can take to help deal with the symptoms.
“If you are running fever of 100.0 or over, see a doctor if necessary,” Coffman said. “Drink plenty of fluids and follow your doctor’s orders.”
Sick students and faculty should only return after one of two conditions are met.
“When they have been fever free for 24 hours without a fever-reducing medication such as Tylenol or on your doctor’s suggested return to school date,” Coffman said.
Principal Paul Weinheimer forwarded an email from custodial supervisor Richard Maceyra asking faculty to take steps to stop the spread of illness.
“Please ask your teachers to make sure that all the students remove their books and things off of the desk top so the custodians can disinfect those desks properly,” Maceyra said in the email. “It would be appreciated if they would also clean off any counters or teachers desks that need to be disinfected. We cannot fight this bug without your help.”
Being sick can lead to effects both in and out of school that students have to deal with when they return to school.
“I missed a basketball game,”sophomore Tristan Cancel said. “I felt really behind from all the work I missed.”
