School portrait makeup/retake day is tomorrow in the practice gym.
“These are the official portraits which will be in the yearbook, and they are free to take,” yearbook advisor Jenn Moore said. “Students will leave with a QR code to create an account and view their photos shortly after picture day.”
This year parents can choose to change the background of the portraits they order, which isn’t something they had access to in past years.
“Freshmen through juniors will be called to the gym throughout the day alphabetically per their last name,” Moore said. “However, if a student knows they have a test third period and want to go take their picture during 2nd [period] instead, that is completely fine. School comes first, always.”
Seniors may retake or make up their official senior portraits by signing up in their Class Canvas.
“A group email containing the sign up link also went out to all family emails listed in Skyward for seniors,” Moore said. “Those take a little longer, so seniors have to make an appointment. Cap and gown are provided, and students need to bring a camisole top (preferably black or white) for the ladies or a plain white tee shirt for the gentlemen.”
Seniors also take a formal portrait wearing a tuxedo or dress.
“Students might not realize the significance of their high school graduation while they are going through it,” Moore said. “Their future selves will want to look back and see what they looked like back in the day.”
The newspaper in Lampasas publishes the official senior portraits as a way to celebrate seniors.
“Even those students who get senior photos taken elsewhere, it’s a rite of passage to get official cap and gown portraits,” Moore said.
Senior Michaya Shepherd said the feelings of this being her last year to get photos taken hasn’t fully hit yet.
“[Senior portraits] mean a lot actually,” Shepherd said. “The fact I even made it this far to get them taken and trying to enjoy the idea of getting my picture taken even if I’m not comfortable with the way I look yet. I just want my future self to look back and be proud and happy about it even if my past self hated the idea.”
