As the school year started, issues with AT&T service caused the internet to lag and at times completely shut down.
“The internet issues have interfered with the time I have to get my work done and have caused me to lose progress I had made on my work,” junior Yanina Villegas Gonzalez said.
Sophomore Avalyn Southard said there are a few differences between previous and current internet issues.
“In the past, internet issues were less frequent, only happening every couple of months and only lasting a few minutes,” Southard said. “Now internet issues are happening every week and lasting for days at a time. Before it was only happening at the school, but now it’s also happening all around town, making it harder for me to even complete my assignments at home.”
Students are having to work extra hard to make sure they turn assignments in on time.
“I haven’t been able to do much of my work in class,” Southard said. “Since I’ve had to do it at home, I haven’t been able to ask my teachers questions about the assignments. Because of this, my work is starting to pile up, making me stressed.”
Some students are being given the same amount of time to finish an assignment as they would if there were no disruptions with the internet at all.
“I have had more homework because it’s all still due at the end of the day,” sophomore Michaela White said. “My grades have also been affected because I have to cram in all the information before a test, since we can’t study in class with no internet.”
Most teachers, however, have had grace and are giving students the necessary time to turn in assignments.
“Fortunately, my grades have not been affected because the teachers are understanding and give us extra time,” Skiles said. “There’s not much I can do when it’s out, so there have been some times that I’m okay with it being down because if I’m not stressed about a due date, I can chill out because I know it’s not my fault.”
