Installed by the district as a new means of bringing in income through advertisements, a $250,000 Outdoor Sports Display screen from Watchfire was installed at Badger Field.
“It was introduced to the board to bring in some income for the district,” digital communications teacher Susan Pennington said.
“Once it’s paid for, all the people that are purchasing these ads like this help reach our goal this year of $25,000,” Pennington said.
Aside from profit, the board was installed to allow sports replay and live streams during a game.
“There are different settings and display options, so you can have the whole screen displayed at once, or you can break apart the screen into several different panels,” Pennington said.
This year the screen will be operated by Pennington, but next year students may be able to operate it.
“It’s a paid position, so they’re going to be able to work in the press box during the game,” Pennington said. “There will be two students working the screen, and they will get paid hourly.”
Customers can buy two different ad packages with different costs and display options.
“There is silver which is just your image, and that is $1000, and gold is your video and that is $3000,” Pennington said.
Sophomore Jessyn Ramos said the new screen is “really shiny.”
“It makes me miss the nostalgia of the old one but change is good,” she said.
The screen comes with a variety of transitions and graphics which feature the district colors.
“We can go in there, like during a touchdown, and we can type in ‘touchdown,’ and a bunch of touchdown logos and/or videos will pop up,” Pennington said.

Not a fan of this change, the $250,000 could have gone to CTE classes that bring kids to actually make standard almost guaranteed careers like firefighting, Cosmetology, and others. its cool, but why?

Could the money have also been used for making the school better. What’s next a new stadium or astroturf? Better ways to spend the money.
