In honor of Valentine’s Day, the library staff and student aids hosted an annual reading event: Blind Date with a Book. This year, the event is Jan. 22 to Feb. 29 in the library.
“This year has been, by far, the most successful event ever,” librarian Shelly Myers said. “I give credit to Mrs. Harrell’s idea of offering students a chance to participate by “rating” their book date on a bookmark and turning it in, instead of having to talk to one of us about their books.”
Myers got the event idea from other members of the librarian staff and social media.
“I can’t remember exactly when we started this,” Myers said. “But it was a team effort by our library staff (Mrs. Cimino, Ms. Myers, and our fabulous student library aides). My earliest saved documents are dated January 2017, so let’s say 2017. It was an idea that I borrowed from Pinterest and other librarians.”
This year has had the most students participate in Blind Date with a Book.
“Last year, we only had 18 students go on a blind date with a book,” Myers said. “ This year, so far, we’ve had over 40, and some of those 40 are on their 2nd or 3rd ‘dates.’ We usually only have 12-20 participants.”
Many different people in the library work and dedicate their time to this event.
“Mrs. Harrell designed the table and she, Mrs. Beuermann, and our creative student aides have been selecting and wrapping the books,” Myers said.
