Students who frequent getting drinks at the soda machine were confused when they noticed the machines were missing when they returned form winter break. However, they can look forward to seeing brand new machines in the coming week.
“We are changing to another company,” principal Joey McQueen said. “Another company will be coming out this week with new machines.”
The main reason for the switch is due to the previous company not meeting the requirements of how the machines should run.
“The other company didn’t fit our needs as far as maintaining the equipment,” McQueen said. “When the company couldn’t fulfill our needs and meet our security regulations,
we decided to change vendors.”
Students were not informed that the machines were going to be replaced, and therefore felt surprised by the sudden disappearance.
“I found out the soda machines were gone when I was on my way to buy a soda,” sophomore Victoria Valencia said. “ I felt very surprised and shocked.”
The school does not set the qualifications for what must be in the soda machines, the government does. If there is anything in the machines that does not meet those standards, the school might have to switch to a new vendor.
“We are regulated by the federal government in what we can have in the machines,” McQueen said. “One regulation is diet drinks or 0 sugar drinks.”
Valencia is excited to see the new machines and hopes they will be efficient.
“I can’t wait to see the new soda machines,” Valencia said. “Sometimes [the old machines] wouldn’t give you the sodas.”
