The cross country team will compete in district at Gatesville tomorrow to try to earn their spot for Regionals.

“I think the season has gone well so far, there has been ups and downs, as is with any season,” assistant coach Aaron Nuckles said. “But for sure the work ethic has improved, and good things are happening!”

The team competed at Stephenville at the Thrill of the Hill meet with 1-6A schools Oct. 6. The girls varsity team placed 11th out of 20 teams, with senior Abby Valdez placing ninth with a time of 13:04. The boys varsity team placed 9th out of 15 teams, no one placed.

“I feel like the season has been going really great and it’s been really fun,” Valdez said. “I’m a little nervous about district but I’m hoping that we will make it to regionals as a team, and I feel like the guys have a good chance of going.”

To qualify for regionals as a team, both teams have to place above third. To make it individually, the runners have to place in the top 15. Out of the girls, Valdez and junior Nyla Long have consistently placed in the top 15, while Rainwater and Stone have also placed top 15 for the boys.

“I’m expecting us to go out, compete and do the best we can,” head coach Macey Siegert said. “I would love to see the boys and girls varsity teams make it to regionals. I can’t focus too much on the results. I just have to focus on each day of practice and do what I can to prepare my kids.”
