Take A Seat
Teachers Revamp Classroom Arrangement
October 3, 2017
Students come to school to learn, and some to excel in academics. A couple of teachers thought that it would be a better classroom environment for students if they had a flexible seating.
“I started to include the flexible seating for two reasons,” English teacher Mrs. Randolph said. “There was not enough room to fit all of the desk in my room. Im also really focusing on the goal of differentiation. My goal as a teacher this year is to create a more student’s choice environment.”
This comes in many styles. Teachers have put stuff from lawn chairs, to wooden stly furniture.
Education is an important matter in the United States right now. Flexible seating is designed to help students concentrate in a more situated seating position.
“I enjoy flexible seating,” senior Garrett McGuire said. “I like that i have a choice on where to sit, and it makes me more subjective to learning. Being comfortable in school is an important thing, because students need to feel comfortable when they’re learning.”
Research states that flexible seating has enhanced a student’s classroom learning environment by 53% (www.edutopia.org)
“I utilize flexible seating,” junior Moncia Garza said. “It is a lot more comfortable. You don’t have to worry about being uncomfortable, because it changes your environment to a more comfortable way. This flexible seating has really helped me learn and enjoy learning Spanish.”
Teachers said flexible seating will improve classroom environment. They said that their students have drastically improved with focus, learning capabilities, and their classroom behaviors.
“I decided to start flexible seating because I hate the big metal desks,” Spanish teacher Alyson Moy said. “In my class we include a whole bunch of group work, and it was extremely difficult to move the desk around. I like this idea because it allows my students to choose where they want to sit, and it helps with them interacting more with the class and each other. I was fascinated by other teachers with how their students. I have researched this quite a bit. The sites I have visited show that flexible seating improves grades, and a students atmosphere.
