The varsity volleyball team is giving its all to have a successful season. Head volleyball coach Ali Tippie hopes for improvement, a competitive environment and players being better than their best this year.
“We started the season off slow, fighting in games but falling short of all of the pieces of the puzzle coming together,” Tippie said. “Recently, we have hit our stride. While it is not always smooth, we are moving in the right direction and seeing how capable we are every day and building that belief.”
The varsity team practices twice a day, starting Aug 1. They focus on drills, conditioning, and how they’re going to play during competitions.
“We have a great group of athletes throughout the entire program that bring energy and the drive to improve every day,” Tippie said. “This group is so easy and fun to coach. I have never experienced such consistency throughout each level on coachability, excitement, and the want for more.”
Games are Tuesdays and Fridays at 5:00 p.m. for freshmen & JV, and 6:00 p.m. for varsity.
“I feel like the team is coming together and we are doing well, but we can always do better,” freshman Mattie McBeth said.
McBeth has played volleyball for four years and is currently a varsity outside hitter.
“It is a great accomplishment [to be a freshman on varsity], and I am honored to be on the varsity team,” McBeth said. “I love traveling to play volleyball, and it is a sport that you can always get better at. You just have to put in the effort.”
Senior defensive specialist and left back Jacie Resa has been playing volleyball since 7th grade.
“I love how each ball is a new opportunity, and you can never play this sport with one player,” Resa said.
Tippie said that preparation and encouragement are what drive the team and keep the players striving to win and potentially make the playoffs later.
“Our main goal is to make an impact in District and aim for a playoff seed this year,” Tippie said. “We are in a tough district, which brings its challenges, but we are more than capable to be a contender.”
Resa has treasured her time on the team and is sad that this is her final year with all the girls.
“I will miss the memories, the friendships, and the time I got to spend with my teammates every year,” Resa said. “I would like to add a message to all of my teammates: I love you girls with all of my heart. Please always push yourself. Play hard, love harder!”
