The tennis team played against Belton Aug. 26 and won 12-7. They will play Ellison today.
“[Belton] brought 10 boys and 10 girls this time so were able to get a few more matches in for practice at the end,” tennis coach Kenneth Peiser said in a press release. “The kids were able to have close matches that they were able to stay focused on and play hard. Real good win.”
Players have been focusing on stamina, consistency and teamwork.
“This season I would like to do better than I did the year before,” senior Samantha Lopez said. “Before each game I tend to listen to music to get me prepared.”
Peiser said that the girls’ side has been strong and winning their matches.
“One thing the team needs to improve on is consistency, keeping the ball in play for 10 shots with a little pace,” he said.
Lopez said along with playing with her teammates, she enjoys bonding when they go out to eat after a home game.
“I would like my team to know that it’s such an amazing thing to have a team that is constantly pushing each other to be better everyday,” she said.
From the beginning to the very end, there is always something to be proud of.
“Every season is a highlight,” Peiser said. “They improve from day one til we end in April.”
Peiser said his message to the players is to “enjoy playing.”
“Be creative with your shots and never give up,” he said.
