The final off campus lunch for seniors was April 7.
“[Off-campus lunch] makes me feel like I’m in the 90s movies when they are like, ‘Hey, let’s go to the burger shack’,” senior Michaya Shepherd said.
During off-campus lunch, students who turn in a parent signed form and meet any other requirements given (i.e.: grades, attendance) can leave campus after academic period and enjoy an extended lunch.
“I enjoy [off-campus lunch] because I get to skip my English class,” senior Ruby Wiseman said. “Honestly, my favorite part is that I get to leave the school.”
During off-campus lunch, students are able to enjoy lunch with their friends regardless of whether they normally have lunch during A or B period.
“What makes [off-campus lunch] so special is that I get to eat food and hang out with my friends,” senior Maggie Ochsner said. “It gives us a little bit of freedom during the school day.”
Shepherd says she will look back at pictures from off-campus lunch experiences after graduating.
“It was a once in a while thing,” she said. “I’m so used to eating in school and it’s so boring, and it felt like I had freedom for a little.”
Wiseman and her friends spent their final off-campus lunch visiting the new Chinese restaurant, Mei Yuan, in town.
“I had never had it and I wanted to try it with my friends and see what the hype was about,” she said.
Ochnser spent her final off-campus lunch visiting two different places.
“First, I went to Sonic because I wanted a drink, and I love walking in with a drink,” she said. “Then I went to Taco Bell with Katie [Johnson], because Taco Bell is the G.O.A.T. There wasn’t a long line, and they’re cheaper.”
Ochnser also said her final off-campus lunch was her favorite.
“I feel like I really got to branch out and go to different places,” she said. “Me and Katie just had a really good time at Taco Bell. I think it’s definitely something I’ll look back on and remember.”
Wiseman’s favorite off-campus lunch memory is eating ice cream with her friends at the park.
“It was after the job fair, so we all had free cone slips from Dairy Queen,” she said. “[My friends and I] ate at Schlotzsky’s, then got free ice cream and went to the park to eat our cones. It was so fun.”
