Mr. Weinheimer holding his new book “How To Leave a Lasting Legacy Through C.A.R.E.”

Principal Paul Weinheimer, along with co-author and friend Bob Herb, published the first book in their “Making A Difference” series entitled “How To Leave a Lasting Legacy Through C.A.R.E.” March 2. 

“The book is all about C.A.R.E.,” Weinheimer said. “It stands for compete with character, adopt an attitude of gratitude and excellence, respect and take responsibility, and engage enthusiastically. The goal is to get people to think of these controlables, to help them think more positively, to help them create more positive habits and to become more successful.” 

Weinheimer and Herb came up with the concept of their book years ago while working together as coaches and teachers at Medina Valley High School. Each year they would work the summer workout program and give their athletes a character lesson. 

“We always talked about how we needed to write something together,” Weinheimer said. “We need to put something out there as a different way to try and reach people and make a positive difference. So I kind of came up on a walk one day and felt inspired. Thought about that, wrote it down, and, man, we went from there.” 

The book goes through the acronym C.A.R.E., explaining what each letter stands for and the message behind it. There is a collection of stories that go along with the acronym and extending questions for the reader to answer. 

“You can read it in different ways,” Weinheimer said. “You can try and read it a few stories at a time, or you can read one story and just really break down the questions and think about it and how it can impact you in a positive way.” 

Weinheimer and Herb are working on the second book in their “Making a Difference” series and are set to publish it some time in the fall of this year. 

“The second book is inspired by a couple of people that have really had a huge impact on me and coach Herb,” Weinheimer said. “These people have died too early, but their lives were extremely meaningful. There’s a lot of lessons that we can share that can help more people.” 

The book is available for purchase in paperback form on Amazon.com for $7.99. As students have learned about Weinheimer’s recently published book some, like junior Mia Bazaldua, have purchased it. 

“I think Mr. Weinheimer has a lot of good advice, so I thought buying his book would be a good investment,” Bazaldua said. “I think it is really cool that Mr. Weinheimer wrote a book, and I’m super proud! I think it is really inspiring seeing my principal publish a book about something he’s really passionate about.”

 Many students are familiar with the concept of C.A.R.E. because Weinheimer speaks about it often and the school hallways are decorated with stickers that spread the message of C.A.R.E. 

“The book has a great message and Mr. Weinheimer has talked to me before about the meaning behind C.A.R.E. and why he thinks it’s important,” Bazaldua said. “Students and teachers at our school should read Mr. Weinheimer’s book because it is inspiring and offers a lot of great advice. Also supporting our principal is great because he is always supporting us.” 

Weinheimer said his eventual goal is to write more books and in some years when he retires as principal go on the road with Herb and share the message of their books to more students.

“I think that people want to think more positively and want to do better,” Weinheimer said. “The book is just one small tool you can add to your tool belt to help those things. It can help you grow and leave a positive impact on others, ultimately guiding you to leave a lasting legacy!”
