The Flower of the Month club is a monthly subscription for middle school and high school teachers to receive floral arrangements created by students. It is run through the FFA organization and LHS floral teacher Kirby Kennedy-Philips.
“The program has been really successful,” Kennedy-Philips said. “We do 40 arrangements a month and are hoping to have more than that next year.”
Baby’s breath, solidago and hydrangeas were arranged in a vase wrapped with ribbon for February’s arrangement. Students are now preparing for the March arrangement for spring.
The program ensures a special and unique opportunity to encourage and educate students about the importance of floral arrangements.
“We do an arrangement of flowers every month just to kind of get the floral industry out there and make people happy,” junior Ava Rojas said.

“I like making people happy and I like when you deliver the arrangements,” Rojas said. “It puts a smile on people’s faces.”

Rojas’ favorite part of the club is making the floral arrangements. She is proud of the way she uses flowers and greenery to create something eye-catching
“[Kennedy-Philips] teaches us,” Rojas said. “She actually has her own floral company, so she knows everything about it.”
Rojas said Kennedy-Philip’s teaches her students how to put together arrangements depending on height and diameter.
“She teaches us so much about flowers that I’ve never known before,” Rojas said.
