Lampasas’ varsity football team has pushed themselves to the fullest through grit and pride.
Badgers won with a score of 55-21 against Dumas in Andrews Nov. 22, claiming their championship in Area. However, Badgers played their final game of the season with a score of 63-35 against the Wolves in Sweetwater Nov. 29.
Athletic director and head football coach Troy Rogers coaches the team Monday through Thursday after school to prepare them for upcoming games. The team goes through their walk-through on Thursdays and lifts every day except Fridays. Rogers said the team prepares the same every week, regardless of the opponent.
“At the end of the day, it is always about us,” Rogers said. “You have to focus on the things you can control and that is us, not the opponent.”
Rogers said the team studies and respects their opponents and tries to learn as much about them as possible, but it ultimately comes down to their execution and playing together as a team.
“I believe we have gotten better every week,” Rogers said. “That is the goal, to grow every day every week. We still have a ways to go to get to where we want to be, but I like our progress to date.”
Senior Reed Jerome said the team has been laser focused on treating each game like any other.
“We have consistently improved each game and [have] gotten closer as a family through the ups and downs of the season,” Jerome said.
Rogers said Lampasas is a special place.
“We are very grateful for the support of our student body and the support Badger Nation shows to all of our extracurricular programs,” he said.
