Results for the Homecoming court were announced during halftime at the football game Sept. 20 with senior Hailey Palmer winning the vote for Homecoming Queen..
“I was shocked at first, but was immensely grateful for the support I received,” Palmer said. “Seeing how proud my parents were made it all the better.”
Following Homecoming tradition, Palmer and fellow senior Solomon Storm performed a skit at the pep rally together along with the other candidate pairs. Palmer and Storm reenacted the opening dance from the 2024 Deadpool & Wolverine movie, though other ideas were considered as well.
“[We] came up with a few ideas for our skit, like acting like Messi and Ronaldo since we both play soccer,” Palmer said. “We almost decided on Barbie and Ken as well, but we ended up choosing Deadpool and Wolverine. We had a lot of fun learning the dance, and I believe we did a good job and it came out well.”
Homecoming week also serves as a way to get students excited and involved in school activities, something Palmer expressed support for. Students are able to partake in dress-up days and help make decorations to put up around the school, creating a “lively atmosphere” according to some.
“I personally enjoy Homecoming,” Palmer said. “It’s a good way to get the whole school to participate in school spirit activities. From the dress-up days to the football games, Homecoming brings our whole community together to celebrate everyone involved in the Friday Night Lights.”
Alongside Palmer, senior Jimmy Mcanally was voted Homecoming King.
“I believe Jimmy winning is a positive thing, seeing how absolutely proud his mother was when he won,” Palmer said. “It was amazing. I hope it’s a memory he carries with him proudly, because I know it’s one for me.”
Palmer has continued to express gratitude for her supporters and showed support for her fellow candidates and winner.
“I want to say thank you to everyone who supported me and voted for me,” she said. “You guys are amazing.”
