The track has had a successful start to the season with the team placing in multiple meets. The team will be going to its fourth track meet of the season Thursday.
“I think JV will win district,” track head coach Cory Warner said. “I think varsity will have a good shot to win district, and I think that we could get at the least two to three relays to regionals, and hopefully maybe advance from there.”
Warner has cut the time in the team practices in half from last year.
“As long as you get in quality work, the quantity of the work doesn’t really matter,” Warner said. “If you’re just putting in the work, and you’re going 100% every time. So less is more and that’s why we’ve done it this year.”
Warner has spent time between track meets tweaking how he trains the relay runners’ handoffs.
“So you work on those things like our handoffs and making sure we understand the line that we’re trying to go on when we make those handoffs,” Warner said. “We just improve on our times and that’s the main goal.”
Warner wants to make the team like a family.
“I love to see people compete and that’s awesome,” Warner said. “Just being good people and just maintaining a positive character. Just being the best upbeat person you can be and taking care of each other.”
Freshman Parker Almazon has been doing hurdles since 2022.
“I started doing them in 7th grade because someone was hurt and I had to take over their spot,” Almazon said. “It turned out I was really good at hurdles and I continued for 7th, 8th and now 9th.’’
The athletes who do the hurdles event run 300 meters around the track to practice for their event.
“Track is a really good experience,” freshman Brylie Centizi said.
