This Sunday, singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey will perform in Austin at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater. She will play another show in Texas Tuesday.
“I think it’s great that she’s performing especially in Texas because she’s so close,” junior Maggie Oschner said. “Even if I’m not personally going to her concert, it’s great that she knows that her fans support and want to see her.”
The last tour Del Rey had was her “LA to the Moon Tour” which celebrated her album “Lust for Life” in 2018. Since then, Del Rey has performed sporadically, but hasn’t performed multiple shows consistently, until now
“I am excited that she’s performing,” junior Shelby Dewald said. “It’s fun to know that she’s back out there.”
Del Rey kicked off United States dates Sep. 14 in Tennessee and will continue to perform in the U.S. until Oct. 5.
“I think that this is a great opportunity for Lana,” junior Kaitlin Creson-Price said. “I am very proud of her.”
Over the recent years, Del Rey has grown in popularity, mainly due to social media.
“I discovered her music by just scrolling through TikTok,” Oschner said. “ I really connected to her songs and wanted to listen to her more. I also had friends that listened to her and that helped me get into her even more and it gave us a common interest to bond over.”
Tickets for Del Rey went on sale via Ticketmaster Aug. 25. Due to high demand, they quickly sold out and are now only available on second party websites.
“I would love to attend a show of hers,” Oschner said. “I watch videos of her live performances and you can just tell that she has a passion for what she does and she puts on a great show.”
Her recent shows include songs from all eras of her discography, including her most recent albums “Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd” and “Chemtrails Over the Country Club.”
“I love her new album, I think it got even more people interested in her music which is great,” Oschner said. “I like the variety from songs that have a somber undertone to the ones with a more cheerful, mischievous feel.”
The highlight of her U.S. dates will take place Oct. 1 at the “All Things Go” Festival where Del Rey will be performing alongside other big artists including Boygenius and Beabadoobee in Maryland.
“She is just a lovely singer and has such a nice voice so her music is irresistible,” Creson-Price said.
Though her journey of performing across the U.S. won’t be a long one, thousands of fans are excited to see her make her way back on stage.
“I like that her music makes you think about what she’s saying,” Oschner said. “It’s touching to see her pour out her heart into lyrics for others to relate to, especially with the wide variety of songs in her discography.”
