Lampasas’ annual Johnny Lam Jones Relays scheduled for March 2 was canceled due to inclement weather. The track team will compete in Llano today.

Our home meet was canceled and it stinks,” head boys track coach Cory Warner said. “Partly because it’s been canceled the last couple of years. We are planning to reschedule that meet for April 5 so get your popcorn ready. The kids will be ecstatic.”

Typically, the Johnny Lam Jones Relays does not get rescheduled if it is canceled. In 2022 it wasn’t rescheduled, but it has been confirmed that it will be rescheduled for April 5.

“We just found out this morning that the home meet was rescheduled and I am very excited about it since I have friends and family wanting to see me compete,” sophomore Ava Speichert said.

There are three more track meets until district on April 12 in Marble Falls.

“We’ve seen some great competition the first two weeks and all I’ve seen is growth,” Warner said. “The kids are getting faster every week and that’s what you want to see.”

The Badgers will continue to practice and prepare for the upcoming meets. There will be no meets during spring break.

“Just as long as we get better every time we step on the track, I will be satisfied,” Warner said. “I would like to see us go sub 1:32 in the 4×200 and a sub 3:30 in the 4×400. We have a ways to go, but we are working.”
