Powerlifters competed at the powerlifting event in the competition gym Jan. 19. Girls powerlifting ranked fifth overall. Boys powerlifting ranked third overall.

“We did really good, had a lot of young girls who bettered themselves and did a really good job on the meet,” Head girls powerlifting coach TJ Cleavinger said. “We also had a lot of veteran girls who did good as well.”

In preparation for the event girls powerlifting worked on technique, and boys powerlifting worked out.

“I’m glad we placed third overall in team and the kids improved their totals,” Head boys powerlifting coach David Brister said. “We just keep working out and the kids just got to get stronger and keep lifting weights.”

To improve for next meets coaches plan on practicing more weight lifting for their teams.

“I’m proud of what they did,” Cleavinger said. “And I plan on improving in the future.”
