Semester Exams Begin Tomorrow
December 13, 2021
Semester finals will begin tomorrow and continue through Thursday, and with that comes the question of exemptions and how they will work.
Exemption tickets were given to students who have three or less excused and unexcused absences. Students can give the tickets to teachers who have approved exemptions.
“We were very lenient with the COVID-19 absences this year and it’s been very popular with the kids,” attendance officer Dick Parker. “We allowed for 10 absences if they had COVID which should have been enough of a blanket for them.”
Seniors have the least absences as opposed to sophomores who have the most.
In 2018 some students bought fake tickets that resembled the tickets given out as exemptions and it only took a while for teachers to find out and begin reporting them. Because of this, this year’s tickets have a new format and design that would be much more difficult to duplicate.
“People were offering to pay others to give them tickets so they didn’t have to take their finals,” senior Daniel Rounds said. “It was kind of crazy.”
Tomorrow will be 1st, 2nd and 5th period exams. Then Wednesday will be the 7th, 3rd and 8th period exams, and finally Thursday will be early release with only the 6th and 9th period exams.
“‘I’d advise everyone to use their exemptions wisely, and to not stress too much over the outcome of their finals,” junior Callie Bekker said.
