Top Field Gets Turf
September 3, 2019
The athletics program upgraded the top field by the field house to turf in order for the athletes to prepare to play on turf during games at other schools.
Since football season has started, the players on the team got the first chance to see how it feels.
Senior Jaylon Porter said that the turf helps the team tremendously.
¨I love practicing out there on that turf,” Porter said. ¨I feel safer on the turf because before we got it, the grass on the field was all turned to dirt and anyone could slip and twist an ankle or really injure them self due to the terrible condition that it was in.¨
The new turf includes yard lines and also the Badger colors blue and white on the sidelines and in the endzone. Also, in the middle of the 50 yard line rests the Lampasas Badger logo, the Rocking L.
Junior Ace Whitehead said that he is also enjoying the field .
¨It just feels so good under my cleats and the entire team was flying around in our first official practice on the field,¨ Whitehead said. ¨We really appreciate what the school does for us, it is so great that they provide us athletes with such great things to keep us safe and healthy.¨
On Thursday Aug. 29, the Freshmen and JV football teams played the first football games on the turf field against the Joshua Owls. Both Badger teams ended up with a win.
Junior Peyton Underwood said that playing a game on the turf was a special moment.
“Coach Rogers told us to protect our brand new field and come up with a win on the first ever game played on the turf and that is exactly what we did,¨ Underwood said. ¨We all gave it everything we had when the time came to play, and now we feel like any game we play on our home turf we will not be beaten and no one can stand in our way.”
