The girls golf team placed 2nd at the State tournament in Kyle on May 13 and  14. The team consisted of two juniors, two sophomores and a freshman.

Sophomore Leeann Parker, came in first out of the five girls on the team. This is Parker’s second year on the team and first year attending State.

“State was a great experience,” Parker said. “I was pretty confident we were going to make it since we did really good at district, then regionals, and I knew if we worked hard enough we could make it to State.”.

Advancing with the team was freshman Shaylee Wolfe, the only freshman on the girl’s varsity team. As an individual, Wolfe placed third out of the five girls on the team. She said she can’t wait to advance again next year.

“Making it to State was definitely a fun experience and it definitely brought us all a lot closer as a team,” Wolfe said. “As a team, as well as individuals, we all did really great. We proved that we could make it to State and hopefully next year we can come back with first place.”

Sophomore Elizabeth Cross did not play in the tournament, but accompanied the team on the second day of the tournament.

“I think it was really cool that they made it to State,” Cross said. “They worked hard at after school practices and pushed each other as a team by preparing themselves to compete as a whole. Although I did not play in the tournament, I’m glad I went and supported my team. Hopefully I can join the group in the years to come.”
