Softball Season in Full Swing
Players Get Ready For Successful Year
February 15, 2019
Softball season has begun once again. Varsity had a scrimmage against Stephenville on Jan. 26. They played two games, lost the first and won the second.
“It’s going to be rough finding out who works where,” sophomore Brooklynne Edgar said. “It’ll be different from last year because a lot of seniors have graduated and they were a big part of our team.”
There are four new people on the team this year, and two returners are injured. The teams first game is against Rogers on Feb. 12.
“Practice is very beneficial, and although it is sometimes difficult, we enjoy it,” Edgar said. “Practice not only increases and helps our skills, but it also brings us closer together as a team.”
Varsity softball practices everyday after school until 6 p.m.
“I am very excited about this season,” freshman Mia Maldonado said. “I am the only freshman on varsity but I feel very accepted. All the girls are very kind and are excited that I am apart of the team this year.”
There are six seniors and one freshman on the team.
“I am excited about the new talent coming up and I feel that our program across the board is getting stronger,” head softball coach Drew Cleavinger said. “We are a very flexible team in that each player can and will play multiple positions, and that makes us more of a threat because we are knowledgeable and well rounded.”
This year the softball program is expected to have three teams: freshman, JV and varsity.
“We have very excited seniors that are doing a great job leading already,” Cleavinger said. “They are excited about uniting the program top to bottom and making it a fun competitive season.”
